What started out as World Wide Knit In Public Day, does include crocheters (Frankly, I find it hard to believe anyone who showed up with any small portable stitch craft would be shooed away.) I’ll be there Saturday June 13 10:00 am-12:00 pm Florence, MA at the Sojurner Truth statue for our local event. The whole event goes until 2 pm. I have to leave early because if you haven’t noticed, there is an unbelievable number of events scheduled in all categories for Saturday June 13, from tree climbing competitions, to screenings of “The Goonies”, a beer festival, countless bands are playing that night, and probably a thousand graduation parties that afternoon. Drop by the Florence event if you can, even if for only a few minutes on the way to something else!
WWKIP days are all volunteer organized and run. Special thanks to Shelley Parker and friends for organizing the Florence, MA event! People might ask why anybody would be interested in sitting outside in a lawn chair with other people to knit and crochet. Simple. A lot of crafts are solitary pursuits. Other than taking a class, if you don’t have a regular circle of friends who share your interests, you can spend a lot of time stitching alone. Events like these give everyone who is into yarn craft a way to get together and celebrate their common interests. There will be no shortage of conversation, I can guarantee you that! It’s always fun to see what other people are working on and wear and show off what you have made for people who can appreciate it. And it’s free!
If you are not going to be in the Northampton MA area that day, you can find your own local event on the Knit in Public Day website.
